Jiří Vaníček (Czechy)

Jiří Vaníček spent most of his life working in research. He was a co-founder and the first chairman of The Association of Historical Settlements in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. He worked in the Council of Europe for 10 years. He established the European Heritage Days event and coordinated it for 8 years. In 2001 he accredited a new course of study - Travel/Tourism at South Bohemian University which had only been lectured at University of Economics in Prague by that time. In 2005 he moved over to College of Polytechnics in Jihlava where he became the sponsor of a new study course - Tourism. Since 2011 he has worked at Silesian University in Opava where he sponsors the course on Spa Management and Tourism. During past ten years he published about 120 papers in professional journals and has lectured at conferences. Most often he teaches Tourism Marketing and Destination Management but also Planning and Regional Development of Tourism and Project Management in Tourism. In his studies and essays he most frequently deals with Heritage Tourism. He started publishing a new journal The Studia Turistica which focuses on educating students in tourism in the Czech Republic. As a visiting professor under the ERASMUS project he lectured in Portugal, Estonia, Lithuania, Slovenia and Finland. One of his greatest achievements was his participation at the International Society of Travel and Tourism Educators conference in Los Angeles in 2010, where his contribution was awarded the Best Paper Award.
